Folic acid is a compound composed of pteridine, p-aminobenzoic acid and glutamic acid. It is a water-soluble B vitamin. Folic acid plays an important nutritional role in the human body: lack of folic acid can cause macrocytic anemia and leukopenia, and can also lead to physical weakness, irritability, loss of appetite and psychiatric symptoms. In addition, folic acid is especially important for pregnant women. Lack of folic acid within the first three months of pregnancy can lead to fetal neural tube development defects, thereby increasing the incidence of split-brain babies and anencephaly.
1. Test Principle
This ELISA kit is designed to detect Folic acid based on direct-competitive enzyme immunoassay. The microtiter wells are coated with capture BSA-linked antigen. Folic acid in sample competes with the antigen coated on the microtiter plate for the conjugate. After the addition of enzyme conjugate, chromogenic substrate is used and the signal is measured by spectrophotometer. The absorption is inversely proportional to the Folic acid concentration in the sample.
